Dry embossing brass templates and your cuttlebug.

Good evening!

Sit down, grab a beverage of your choice because tonight's post is a bit longer than normal for me.

Have you every tried to use the dry embossing brass templates in your cuttlebug? If you have, did you end up with embossed lines on your cardstock from the template? I have a short tutorial today that shows you how I use the templates in my cuttlebug without getting the embossed lines. For the card above I used the Butterfly Impressabilites by Spellbinders which is used in the cuttlebug the same way as the brass template. The key to avoiding the embossed lines is the size of the Polymer Pad. You will get the embossed lines when the polymer pad is larger than the template as in the below picture.The pad should be just a little bit smaller than the template as shown in this picture.

I bought a 12x12 polymer pad so I could cut it into the sizes that I could use for several of my templates. To cut the mat I use my Tonic Studio's guillotine paper cutter. The Tim Holtz Tonic Studio scissors also work well for cutting the pads.

The sandwich for using the templates in the cuttlebug is the A plate, a B plate, the pad, another B plate and 2 or 3 pieces of thick cardstock. Start out with less cardstock and add as needed. You do not want to force the sandwich through the cuttlebug. I use a piece of chipboard.

Here is a picture of the full card. Do you think I have enough wood framing my card? lol! My daughter was distracting me while I was editing my photos and I was too lazy to go back and fix this one.

The image and sentiment is from Gina K's Basket's of Happiness. The colored cs is all SU, Regal Rose, Certainly Celery and Pale Plum. The image and sentiment were stamped with memento's Tuxedo Black ink on base weight pure luxury paper and colored with copics.

The image was cutout with the Large Deckled rectangles nestibilities as was the matting. The card base is the Small Deckled Mega rectangles. The sentiment was cutout with one of the spellbinder ribbon labels.

Other accessories are ribbon, rhinestones, flower punch, glitter pen, a button and crystal lacquer.

So how did I do for my first tutorial? I would really like to hear what you think about it, good or bad!

Easter Bunnies

Happy Monday!

I have been having problems with my Internet connection the past couple of days. It will let me do somethings but mostly has been giving me fatal errors and shutting down. So I have not been able to post over the weekend because of that.

I have been working on some Easter cards over the weekend in between taking advantage of the nice weather we had Saturday to start cleaning up the yard and helping my in-laws out at there house yesterday.

My Easter card today is made with Gina K's Spring Holidays. I just love the two bunnies in this set and could not resist using white liquid applique on their tails.
I colored them with copics and used a pink Atyou Spica Glitter pen for their little noses.
The frame around the bunnies is nestibilities new labels 4. The dp is also a new Basic Grey paper called Porcelain.
I found a new embellishment called Sparkle Fibers at a local craft store. I added a bit under the bunnies. Doesn't it look a lot like Easter Grass?

Birthday Fishes

Good morning and Happy 1st day of April!

Have you had any April Fools pranks pulled on you? I have not...yet, but I am sure by the end of the day I will have.

Have you ever started a card with a specific idea in mind and about half way through making the card, realize it is going in a totally different direction? That happened to me over the weekend with the card I am sharing today.
It started out as a simple birthday card and ended up being quite a bit more detailed.

I started out by stamping the fish, seaweed, cupcake and hat, colored them all with copics and cut them out. I adhered them to the white cs, with one fish, a couple of the seaweed pants, and the cupcake popped. At that point I thought it would look really cut if I could make them look like they were swimming in a fish bowl. So I gave it a try and am quite happy with how it turned out.
To make the bowl, I stamped the fishbowl on pumpkin cs and cut out the middle of the bowl. I glued a piece of acetate on one side of the fishbowl. I lined the edge of the cs with foam strips just like you would when making a shaker card. Before I attached the fishbowl, I added a few more details to the fish scene - glitter on the fish and cupcake, crystal lacquer on the candle, birthday hat and the fishes lips, rain dots for the fish bubbles and sticklers on the bottom to look like sand.
After I was finished with the card it reminded me of a shadow box.

A day at the beach

Here we are at the beginning of another week! Can you believe April is only a couple of days a way? I thought it would never get here!
I had a very busy weekend with Birthday parties, Anniversary party, parties all weekend! I hope your weekend was good!

Today's card I would like to share was made for the Thursday Sketch challenge over at Stamp TV hosted by Jessica.

I picked up Kindred Spirit stamps awhile ago and had not inked them up yet, how sad is that! When I was thinking about I wanted to do for this challenge I remembered one of the Kindred Spirits stamps I had and thought it would be perfect for what I was going to do. I found a border punch, Boundary Waters, that looked like waves and wanted to use that for the challenge. How perfect does At the Beach work with this punch?
The sentiment is also Kindred Spirits, Kindred Greetings for Kids. I tried to get the ribbon to not cover the tag. After many tries at tying it, I gave up because it had a mind of it's own. lol...
The sentiment says "I'm so lucky you're mine!". Even though this is in the greetings for kids, I think it could be used for any member of your family or maybe even some of your friends.

Happy Friday!
I am so glad it is Friday! The weather is somewhat descent and I am almost done with work - Yahoo!

The card I am sharing today is for friends of our family. They just lost their Father/Grandpa this past week.
I used GinaK's Comfort and Peace stamp set. This is such a beautiful set to use for a sympathy card.
The cs is Perfect Plum, Always Artichoke and layering weight white pure luxury paper. The dp is Basic Greys new Porcelain paper pack.

I used my SU markers, Perfect Plum and Always Artichoke, and colored with them right on the stamp. After stamping the image, I used the quickie glue pen to add dazzling diamond glitter to the flowers. The yellow is doodlebug flock.

I used my new labels 4 nestibilities to cut out the image, sentiment and the matting's.

I used eyelet rain dots and ribbon to attach the image to the card. The sentiment is alo accented with the tiny rain dots.

Bleached flowers

Good Morning!

It has been a dreary, gloomy week with all the rain we have gotten. Today is suppose to be a bit warmer and partly sunny! Whoo Hoo!
Today, I refuse to think about the weather they are predicting for us beginning the weekend and lasting into the middle of next week...what happened to the saying for the month of March, in like a lion out like a lamb or in like a lamb out like a lion depending on how the weather is the first day of March. This year the weather is not going to follow the rules, We're gonna have a in like a lion out like a lion March. I hate to think what will happen in May after the April showers! hee hee.

The card for today covers two of the challenges going this week over at Stamp TV. The color challenge, and the technique challenge. The color challenge is to use lavender and olive and the technique is bleaching.
I used the ivory pure luxury paper as my neutral color. The image is from Gina K's Easter Blessing set.
To bleach the flowers, first I heat embossed the image to help contain the bleach in the area I wanted it to stay in. I used a Clorox bleach pen instead of the liquid bleach. To using the bleach pen all I did was put a drop on a plastic plate and painted it on with an artist paint brush. The bleach from the pen is more like a gel so it was much easier to keep it where I wanted it than the liquid and it did saturate the paper at all.
The image and the matting were cut out with my new nestibility labels 4 dies as were the tabs on the sides. To make the tabs, I just cut the dies in half.

Happy Wednesday! We are getting closer to the weekend!

Today I have another card I made for a sketch challenge last week on Stamp TV. If you have been thinking about purchasing some of Gina K Designs stamp sets, hop on over to Stamp TV and check out the daily challenges. The winners of the challenges get a stamp set of their choice.
You can still participate even if do not have any Gina K stamps but if you do use Gina's stamps, you name goes in the drawing twice.

The card was made using Wild Wasabi Pumpkin Pie, Pure Luxury White and Basic Grey's Ambrosia paper. The image is from a stamp set in Gina's Floral Frenzy kit called Elegant Flowers. I stamped the flowers with memento tuxedo black and colored them in with copics. I added sticklers to the sprouty things sticking out of the middle of the flower and sponged I Kan' Dee Pearlescent chalk over that. The sprouty things I am sure have a name, but right now I am drawing a blank! Darn that old age! hee hee!
I used the cuttlebug to emboss the smaller rectangles with the swirls folder and also sponged the Pearlescent chalk over the embossed swirls.

The sentiment was cut using a spellbinder tag and I finished the card with a bow on top of the scalloped corner and primas.

Today pink is the best...

Oh my goodness! Did we get alot of rain yesterday, last night and it is still raining this afternoon!
The weather today has me wishing I was sitting at my crafting table at home, stamping away instead of sitting at my desk here at work...and then I remind myself that I am lucky to still have my job the way the economy is. I pray every day for those that have been affected by the economy :-)

Today I am sharing a card I made a couple weeks ago for a color challenge on Stamp TV. The colors we were suppose to use were reds, pinks, black and I used white for my neutral.

I used Pure Luxury Black Onyx, Pure Luxury White Regal Road and a DCWV red. The dp is from Emily's Shabby Chick digi paper.
The sentiment is from Melanie's set The Best Things in Life and is cut out using the wavy rectangle nestibilities and matted on a scalloped rectangle. The border is a Friskar's punch in a leave pattern. I don't know why but using this punch is a challenge for me. One of these days I will be smarter than the punch lol!
I finished off the card with prima flowers and gray taffeta ribbon.

Octagon flowers

It's Monday and it's a yucky Monday here weather wise. It's much cooler today and rainy.

The card for today is one I made for last Monday's color challenge and Thursday's sketch challenge on StampTV. The color challenge was to use Banana, Blush and Celery with any neutral color(s). My neutral is Ivory Pure Luxury. The Thursday sketch challenge was CAS (Clean and Simple).
Can you tell what kind of nesties I used for the flowers?
They are the new scalloped large octagons. Pretty cool huh? They look so cute as flowers along with the background, leaves, stems and grass from Gina's Bold Flower which is part of the Floral Frenzy kit. The center of the flowers are glitter dots, another thing from my new stash. For the background of the card I embossed SU's top note using my cuttlebug.
the sentiment is cut using spellbinder's labels. I cut one end straight to line up with the edge of the card and put a couple of dot from a package of eyelet rain dots at the end instead of using metal brads, which I do not even know if I have brads small enough that I could have used instead of the dots.
I finished off the card with the celery ribbon on top.

My door is always open...

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I have been enjoying our nice spring like weather! I am going to be so disappointed if it turns cold again!
The card I am sharing today is from the Gina K Designs release party a little over a week ago.

The card size is the normal 5 1/2 x 4 1/4. I scored the Turquoise cs at 2 1/8 and at 4 1/4. I folded the card in half at the 4 1/4 score line and then folded back at the 2 1/8 score line so it opens like the below picture.
The dp is Basic Grey's Urban Prairie. I used Gina's new free with 3 stamp set, Wreath of Wishes. Both wreaths were stamped with memento tuxedo black ink and colored with copics. They were punched out using the Marvy scalloped circle punches and matted on So Saffron cs.
I attached them so when the card was closed the top wreath covered up the wreath on the inside. I added Basic Grey's small magnetic snaps on the wreaths and between the folds of the front of the card to keep the card closed.
To finish the card I added prima flowers with rhinestones in the middle of the flower and ribbon.

Blessing

Hi!
How has your weekend been so far?

I had a busy but fun day. I spent the morning with my Mom window shopping and the afternoon with my girls before we had to be at my hubby's basketball game.
I did not have much time to stamp today and I really wanted to because I got some new goodies the past few days and can not wait to give it all a try! One of the things I bought, I am hoping to make up a tutorial for you very soon.

I have another card I want to share with you that I made using Rupa Shevde's new Easter Blessings.

The cs is Certainly Celery, Ivory pure luxury and the dp is Basic Grey's Gypsy. I framed the sentiment with Spellbinders Decorative Frames which is popped up and has certain celery rubbed lightly over the embossing. The sentiment was heat embossed with Copper embossing powder.

I heat embossed the doves with Bridal embossing powder on Bashful Blue and cut them out. I used Friskars Nostalgia Corner Edger for the corner of the card base and the dp.
I added ribbon to finish off the card.

I am hosting this weeks Friday potluck challenge on Stamp TV. I'd love to have you join in on the challenge with me! What is the challenge you ask?
Well, when I think of potluck, I think of food so for this weeks potluck we are heading to one of my favorite rooms in the house, the kitchen. I want to see how creative you can be by using something from your kitchen on your card.

This is the sample card I made for the potluck challenge. Can you see my kitchen element on the card? I used aluminum foil.

The shiny strip between the scallop holes border punch is the aluminum. Did you know you can use the polish stone technique on aluminum foil? That is what I did. I found out if you want to use aluminum foil for this technique, alcohol re-inkers work the best. I used the
Adirondack re-inkers in Carmel, Butterscotch and Ginger.
The dp is from Gina's new Floral elegance digital paper pack. The brown cs is from the Floral Frenzy kit, Chocolate Kiss and the Pure White is the Layering Weight Pure Luxury paper.

The sentiment is from Kindred Greeting for Her stamp set and is cutout with the small oval nestibilities. I added a frame of vellum around the sentiment. The vellum was misted with the Memories Mist in Gold to give it a soft shimmer. I really love this stuff!

I used Marvy flower punches to create the flowers on the ribbon bow and the sentiment.

The flower layers are, chocolate kiss, the digi paper and the polished aluminum foil. In the center of the flowers I added a rhinestone.

Charming Couple

Good Morning!

Today is card I made with my in-laws in mind. This month will be their 25th wedding anniversary. I hope I was right and the 25th is silver because that was the color theme for the card. I am going to look pretty silly if it isn't lol!
I used white pure luxury paper and a metallic gray cs. The sides of the gray were cut with a decorative scissors and the top I just eyeballed to match the white frame. The frame is a spellbinder's die cut and before I popped it out of the die, I used the die as a stencil with the Metallic rub-on paste. Isn't there a lot ways to use the rub-on pastes?
The wine glasses and sentiment are from Melanie's new set called A Charmed Life. How many of you bought this set? Did your arm about fall off after cutting it all out? She really packed a lot into this set!
I colored the wine with copics and added prima's with rhinestones in the center around the bottom stem of the glass. I cut out one of the glasses and popped it up along the side of the frame.

Easter Lillies

Happy St. Patrick's Day!


Today's card shows off Rupa's new set Easter Blessing and digi paper from the floral frenzy kit.

I also used the cardstock from the floral frenzy kit. I can not wait until the Chocolate Kiss is release! Over the digi paper I put a piece of acetate that I embossed using cuttlebug's Stylized Flowers folder.
The lilies were stamped with Memento's Tuxedo Black in and colored with copics. I stamped the lilies twice right next to each other and one more time on a separate sheet of cs. The ones on the separate sheet of cs were cut out and popped up.

I used my Quickie Glue Pen and Dazzling Diamonds glitter in the center of the flowers. The image was cut and matted using nestibilities large and small labels. The sentiment was cut out using a nestibilities Double Ended label.
The ribbon is SU's Chocolate Chip and the brads are a misc brand I found in my stash.

Reversed elephants

Good Afternoon!

The weather is spoiling us these past few days. It has been just beautiful and so spring like that you just want to be outside enjoying it while it lasts.

Have you ever misplaced something and can not remember where you put it? Well I did that with this card. I had made it to share it during the release party, but saved it on my laptop where I normally would not save my projects.
I came across it shortly after and thought I would share it now.
Asela's Zoo animals is such a fun set. I had just bought a reverse image stamp and this would be a really cute set to create a reverse image of one of the animals.The card base and the heart is white pure luxury and I used two of the basic grey 6x6 paper packs, Granola and Two Scoops for all the dp. I stamped one elephant with versamark twice on different sheets of dp and heat embossed using black embossing powder. For the second elephant, I inked the image with versamark, stamped the image on the reverse image stamp, stamped the reverse image stamp on the dp and heat embossed using black embossing powder. I repeated this for the second piece of dp. The heads are popped up to add a little dimension to them.

Head in the Clouds

Happy Saturday!

Over the next few days I want to share a few more cards that I made for the Gina K release party.
Don't you love Asela's new set Zoo Animals? These little guys are so cute! When I saw the giraffe is this set with the sentiment "You're always reaching for the top", I wanted to surround him in clouds.
I started out with a piece of white cs cut using SU's top note. I stamped the giraffe with memento's tuxedo black ink, colored him in with my Koh-i-noor pencils and OMS, colored over him again with a versamarker and heat embossed using clear embossing powder. The grass is sponged with Wasabi and Artichoke with a bit of Chocolate sponges near the horizon and around the edges. The clouds in the sky were sponged with Bashful Blue.
The paper is Basic Grey' Mellow and Gina's pure luxury brown from the Floral Frenzy kit.
The sentiment was punched with SU's Curly Label punch as is it's matting.

Happy Friday!

Were you able to join us at Gina K's party last night? We has so much fun chatting with everyone.

This is the card I shared last night at Gina K's release party. I made the card for the sample of a challenge I am co-hosting with Theresa Momber. The challenge is" Spring Theme" and all you have to do is make a project using spring colors or flowers.

The stamp set is one of the new releases called Easter Blessing. These Lillie's are stamped with mementos tuxedo black ink and colored with copics. I used the masking technique to create additional flowers for the image. The designer paper is Delicate Dots which is offered during the SU's sell-e-bration.

I love to hear about the different crafting tools, embellishment, paper, etc... that people have used and love or used and do not like at all. I want to share a few things I recently bought and just loved.
One of the items I shared on Tues called Memories Mist in Sparkling Silver. I also bought the Bright Gold color. I just love this stuff and how you can control the amount of color and shimmer you want. I used the gold for this card on the two punched borders.

Have you used Eyelet Rain Drops before? OMG, I wish I would have bought these sooner! They come a variety of colors and each color pack as different shades of that color and different sizes of eyelets. I used these eyelets for my ribbon/bow on the card I am sharing today. I love that you just punch the hole and stick the eyelet dot over it, how easy is that! The little dots I put in the corners and on the sentiment are also from the pack of eyelet rain drops. Don't they look like tiny brads? The pack also contains these dots in different shades and sizes.

Do any of you own the score map that fits right into the score pal? When they first came out, I thought why buy that when I have a couple other mats already. Well I have heard a few good things about the score mat and finally broke down and bought one. If you were hesitant on buying one like I was, don't hesitant any longer. They are awesome! They sit on top of the score pal and you use it like you would any other mat or table top plus more! It is self healing so you can cut on it with your exacto knife, there grid lines are on it to help you line papers up. If you are anything like me I tend to be quite focused when crafting and will often reach for my exacto knife and cutting before I realize I am cutting into the table and not a mat. This is no longer an issue...my poor table looks like a desk from high school with all the carving in it. Another great thing about the mat is you can flip it over and you have a whole different mat to use. I used this for coloring. If you water color with re-inker or use ink-pad, drop your ink right on the mat and pick up from there, sponge the edges of paper on it and I am sure many more uses that I have not even thought of. If you are worried about how it cleans up...everything just wipes right off!

It's a Zoo today!

Good morning!

Are you ready for day two of the sneak peeks?

Today Asela Hopkins is in the spotlight with her new stamp set, Zoo Animals! These animals are so darn cute and the sentiments go perfectly with each animal.
When I saw the little panda bear and the elephant I could not resist putting the panda on top of the elephant like he was going for a ride.

The designer paper is a new Digi pack Gina is also releasing this week. It is called Peachy Keen. I used two different sheets for the card, Embossed Peach and Brown & Green Stripe. The elephants body is paper pieced with the Brown & Green Stripe. Any of the animals in this set could be paper pieced or made fluffy by using flock which is what I did with the panda.

I sponged the background scene and if you look closely, you can see clouds in the sky.
I can't wait to see what the rest of the designer have done with Asela's new set, come with me and lets take a peek!

Day One Sneak Peek

Good Morning!

I want to start today's post by thanking everyone for their congrats and kind comments yesterday. You all are a big part in why blogging so much fun. Thank you!

I stopped in Gina's store yesterday and picked up an interesting item. Have you heard of or used Memories Mist? I know there are other 'mist' products out there but I have not seen this one before. I bought both the silver and gold.

I wasn't sure how to use it so I did something I usually do not do...read the instructions. They were very easy to understand - "shake bottle well to mix up the metallic, hold project 6-8 inches away and spray. I followed the directions using the silver mist and this is the the result.

IRL, it is very sparkly. It was hard to capture that in the picture. I really liked this look and thought it would be great for a background. Although I like this look, I wanted something else for my card so experimented a bit. I got a cotton ball and sprayed the mist on the cotton and sponged it on the black pure luxury cs. Doing this I could control where I wanted the sparkly and how sparkly I wanted it.

Here is a picture of the sponging. I know I'm a tease...giggle giggle...

I tried the mist one other way. I wanted to carry that sparkle through the card but only wanted a light layer of it on the black matting behind the image and the sentiment so this time I held the cs about 12 inches away and misted. This turned out exactly like I wanted, a light layer of sparkle on the cs.

Today we are giving you a sneak peek of Rupa Shevde's new set, Easter Blessings. This is a beautiful set and you're gonna love it!

I did the watermark technique with the sentiment and part of another image. There is a bit of color on this card other than the black and white. I colored the little flowers and what I think are leaves on the cross with copics, BV31 and G000. I used my quickie glue pen and dazzling diamonds to outline the cross, added ribbon and a button to finish the card.

Doing the happy dance!!

Good morning! I hope every one's weekend was fabulous. The weather was not the best here in Stoughton so I spent the weekend crafting.


Before I talk about the card, I want to share some exciting news... I was asked to be In the Spotlight for the month of March for Gina K Designs!! Woo Hoo!! I am still shocked to say the least, but am I so excited to be working with the design team and Gina for the month of March.
I am truly honored and can not thank Gina enough for this amazing opportunity!!
We will be starting the sneak peeks tomorrow for the new stamp sets being release on Thursday the 12th. You are going to love 'em and I can not wait to start teasing you tomorrow! hee hee!


And now the card. I have been hearing a lot about a new product called Flower Soft. Has anybody tried it out? Well I have been intrigue by it and recently picked some up. I had the Elegant Flowers stamp set from the Floral Frenzy kit sitting out on my table in front of me. There are two flowers in that set I thought would be perfect to use with the Flower Soft.

I was pleasantly surprised that the colors of the Flower soft match SU retired Groovy Guava and Wild Wasabi. The dp is also one of SU's retired papers and the cs is Chocolate Chip and Guava. I tried to keep the card simple so the focus stayed on the flowers.

Here a close up of the Flower Soft. They can sure pack a lot of it into a little jar! After using it for these flowers it did not look like I used any of it! It definitely will go a long way.

Don't you love that sentiment? It is so true isn't it?
